Virtual Chess Club Update

Congratulations to Conon and Matthew!

2019/20 ~ News

During the month of June, we held three simultaneous competitions: Fast Chess, Puzzles and Stars. Our Slow Chess competition came to a glacial stop, as no one managed to complete a match before it timed out! (Miss Mullin has learned a lot about running a chess club online!)

Congratulations to Conon, Matthew, Liam M, Maisie, Ivan and Ethan who have all earned chess stickers this month.

Last week of term!

Good Morning P5/6! I can’t quite believe we are in our last week of term and soon to be in July! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and I look forward to our last whole class call on Tuesday. It would be great to see as many as possible on this call.

There will be an optional call on Wednesday (11.15am) for P6 and Thursday (10am) for P5.

We have a few pupil bags to be collected from the classroom. Please come to the classroom fire exit to collect these any morning this week between 10am and 12 noon.

Here is this week’s suggested timetable : ~

2,4,8

Remember this post… This would be a great game for this week’s revision…

We continue to work hard on learning our times tables. We are now concentrating on our 4 and 8 times tables. We have explored the link between the 2, 4 and 8 times tables. We have also discussed using the doubling technique for quicker recall. The 2,4 ,8 game uses this technique. Have a go at home!

“Slow Chess” Challenge ~ 26th May – 9th June

Our new challenge is to play Slow Chess against friends on chesskid.com. On Tuesday 9th June at 4pm, the children with the highest Slow Chess rating will qualify for special chess sticker.

Chess kids can challenge as many friends to slow games as they want. Once a player makes a move, the other player has 7 days to respond, or the game is over! Don’t forget, you can challenge Mr Crossland (GPSVol) Mr McWhirr (GPSVol2) and Miss Mullin (MissMullinGPS) to slow games of chess too! And you can play slow chess…
